The Brooklyn Collective gives Charlotte a place to connect our strengths and the space to build what’s missing.

It's Time We Make It Work . . . Together.
A DIVIDED CITY
Charlotte is ranked 50 out of 50 in upward mobility, meaning that it’s harder to escape poverty here than in any other big city in the country

A GROWING CITY
At the same time that our city struggles to close the opportunity gap, 60 people a day are moving to Charlotte in search of their own opportunity.

Surrounded by parking lots and skyscrapers, the Brooklyn Collective stands as a reminder of what’s at stake if we don’t find solutions beyond zero-sum.
Make It Charlotte

Where do we start?
Our answer is simple: The Brooklyn CollectiveAMPLIFY VS. DUPLICATE
Rather than competing with other efforts currently underway, we see a unique opportunity to align place with purpose.

How will we do it?
Narrowing down problems to create actionable solutions
Make It Work will activate space at the Brooklyn Collective to gather civic-minded “makers” (creatives, entrepreneurs, problem-solvers, non-profits, etc.) to fill gaps with knowledge, resources, and connections.

Why it matters?
Systems change takes time. Charlotte needs help today.
Change doesn’t happen in a moment…it happens in a movement. Join us!
Make It Work will catalyze our collective potential & grow our local economy from the ground up

Make It With Beekmarks
In the 21st century, the information and services that people rely on to thrive as citizens are rapidly changing, and they need a place to go to find it.
“The Brooklyn Collective’s Grace and MICo buildings are special, architecturally and culturally. The significance of these buildings on this block in a city that struggles to preserve history, especially that of displaced black communities, cannot be overstated. Where the buildings go from here will matter.”
Among the buildings is Grace AME Zion Church, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. It has always served as a safe space to solve community issues that people in the Black community couldn’t talk about elsewhere. Although it was sold to the historic commission over 20 years ago, The Brooklyn Collective team now wants to be able to positively influence the very things that were performed on those same grounds since the 1880s.
Help us make it even better
We are looking for sponsors, partners, and volunteers. Can you help??
